Optimization & Expansion

Plans are underway to optimize and expand the Southmost Regional Water Authority facility, adding drinking water capacity for its partners and the region.

The Southmost Regional Water Authority (SRWA) is planning improvements to its Brackish Groundwater Treatment Facility to provide more water for its partner communities and reduce reliance on the river.

The planned optimization would increase the facility’s production capacity from 7.5 million gallons per day (MGD) to 10 MGD. SRWA is also considering a longer-term expansion to 20 MGD that could be completed around 2033.

Together, these improvements would strengthen water supplies for all SRWA partners and help the region better withstand drought. Every additional gallon produced at the facility would reduce the amount of water needed from the river.
